The Pioneers

Antonia & Erasmo Perniola

It all started with my parents, Antonia and Erasmo Perniola.  Since the 1960s, they lived in Altenburg, Baden-Württemberg, where they owned a large house and a grocery store.  After selling their properties, they acquired the current villa in 1991 , which was in a completely different condition at the time.  Through extensions and improvements, they transformed the property piece by piece.

27 years later, my parents decided to give the villa to their children, Chiara and me.  Matteo, to be transferred.  My sister waived her share in favor of an agreement with me.  Thus, I became the sole heir.  Together with my wife Milva This gave rise to the idea for our passion project: villa Perniola – Art, Spirit & Soul – a place of inspiration and connection.  The property comprises approximately 1000 m² of living space with a two-story main building, an antique trullo with a kitchen, veranda, and separate garden, as well as an elongated building (garage/storage).  The grounds include an additional 3000 m² with over 45 olive trees, fig and fruit trees, and a large vegetable garden. 
2017

The major renovation begins

Four months of renovation time – planning and construction management by Matteo Perniola. 
The following work was carried out:
1: Redesign of the courtyard with drivable surface, new sewage channels, electricity distribution and stone borders 
2: Construction of a generous limestone wall and a staircase leading down to the lower area, as well as a new piazza with a barbecue area. 
3: Complete renovation of the lower living area: new electrical wiring, plumbing, heating, sewage, floors, walls, as well as a guest toilet and a large bathroom with walk-in shower. 
4: Preparing the garage for later use as a studio/seminar room
5: Laying new water and electricity lines for future expansions

2021

Facade renovation
during the pandemic

In the midst of the pandemic, during financially challenging times, I launched a fundraising appeal via social media – and it was a success! Thanks to generous supporters, we were able to renovate the facade.  I personally carried out all the work – from erecting the scaffolding and removing the old plaster to the creative design with mandalas.  The result: a house facade that is unique in Italy (and perhaps worldwide). 
2024

emigration

Follow your dreams, they know the way. 

After our youngest child moved out, we faced a decision: stay in Switzerland or pursue our dream in Italy? Our parents encouraged us to take this big step and gave us the necessary freedom.  We are incredibly grateful to them for that. 

A new
life stage

Follow your dreams, they know the way. 
On July 1st, 2024 , the time had finally come: We moved to Apulia! We embrace the challenge of further developing our vision with joy and energy.  Every day here is a gift, full of wonderful moments.

For friends and close people

I renovated the entire apartment myself: new electrical wiring, a modified kitchen, modernized bathrooms, and cozy, stylish furnishings.  A little gem!

2025

Trullo &
Milva's practice room

Next on the agenda is the renovation of the ancient trullo – a space for meditation and inner reflection.  In addition, Milva's practice room with a veranda and private garden will be designed – a place for encounters and reflection.
